Petty People


There has been times in my life that I’ve majored in minor things. In this season of my life, I want to live simple.  A part of doing so is just not being bothered by people, or situations.  This is easier said than done for me because I like to control my environment, and the people in it.  There, I said it.

In this sage age of wisdom, I am understanding more and more how that is just not how things should be.  It's exhausting to need to control. People resent you for it anyway. So there is a fine balancing act of allowing "the chaos of people" to be allowed in my environment.

As I perfect my journey on this new path, it has been met with unintended answers to my prayers. I now realize that one of them is being overwhelmed by having to deal with PETTY PEOPLE.  They are everywhere!

The world is filled with people who have nothing better to do than stir up mess and create problems. I seem to keep running into them.  I’m doing my very best not to match their energy.  Being around a petty person is like a mass contagion. Its catches you quickly and there you are, being petty yourself.

Once upon a time, I was quick to  argue, prove a point, or one up someone.  Sometimes even being honest or helpful triggers petty.   Now none of those things matter to me. At the end of everyday, I’ll still have my peace, even if I don’t get my way, or have to remain silent. Do people rattle my chain?  Of course they do.  Do I allow them to shake me off my vibration and path?  Far less these days.  Herein lies the growth.

At some point in our lives we should all grow past petty into particulars and grace.  There is nothing wrong with being particular or  protecting your peace with boundaries.  We have to ensure that our boundaries are not erected walls of privilege, condescension, and control.

Recently I’ve had to search my soul for some vivid answers regarding the enormous amount of petty folks crossing my path.  This poem is what I concluded:


Petty People need love too

This is why they keep vexing you

Petty people are silently crying for attention

And here is the opportunity for your ascension

You have two choices when dealing with Petty

You can  match their energy whenever you’re ready

You can play tit for tat

Cruel mind games and all that

You can gas light them and play victim

And at the end of the day you’ll be just like them

Petty, insecure with a festering hole in your ego.

You’ll be this way forever, until you let it go.


Or

You can surrender your pride and the need to control.

You can create a healthy boundary that protects the soul.

You can always  show grace and refuse to respond

You can look at petty with compassion and choose to see beyond

You can afford to do this because you are filled with joy and abundance

And you know this because there is grace in redundance.

Petty can  come sit next to you, because they always find those with light and joy, its what they do.

Remember petty is crying out, they need an example for a better way.

You could choose to love petty, and show them some grace today.

The world is filled with petty people, don’t be one of them.

Let your inner light shine in this special way.

Always let petty have the final say…

May your life be as simple as you desire, and you have more than you require, in peace.

  Sing Unto the Lord This was the name of the songbook in the Pentecostal Church I grew up in. It was my favorite songbook.   It was the only songbook I knew. The Universe

  This week I had a conversation with a friend.   Our paths have intertwined on various levels and paths over the years. We both have always subscribed to manifesting and abundance.   I discovered recently that she too is renewing her faith in Jesus.   We are both being revived in the faith. We discussed the layers of “new thought” and it's   place in God’s plan. She shared with me some revelations about several conversations that we’ve previously had. I thought back over my entire journey.   I grew up underneath the church pew.   As a young adult I got distracted but returned to my faith in a fringe capacity.   I permanently occupied the “backsliders’ row” on the church pew. The New Yorker

    If I had to pick a publication that represented all the cool   intellectual kids and me, it would be the New Yorker.   Everything about its influence is metro and retro reminding me of my foundation for curiosity, creativity, and independent thought as a kid. Recently I had an assignment in my communications class to apply for a dream job or opportunity.   I chose The New Yorker.   It’s a brand with a meaningful past   and promising legacy.   Every contributor is brilliant in their own right, and both the contributors and guests   featured are an instant authority. Most importantly, although it is the Sunday Paper meets Life magazine, they do an extraordinary job of keeping the humanity and intrigue in the message and the work of structured journalism.
